KIT LATHROP (OWNER, LEAD DESIGNER)

I have had a love and passion for flowers and plants ever since I was a little girl working with my grandmother in her garden beds. My grandmother loved flowers, and even took a few floral design courses in her free time. During college I worked at a traditional flower shop where I got my first taste of floral design and I fell in love.

I decided to turn my passion into a career a few years after college when my grandmother passed away (she was 93, and lived a very full and loved life). I realized I am happiest when I’m working with my hands, working with flowers, and getting the opportunity to be creative. I attended and graduated from the prestigious FlowerSchool New York’s Floral Design Program. During my time at FlowerSchool NY I was taught by many master florists including Ariella Chezar, Meredith Waga Perez, and Laura Seita. After graduating from FlowerSchool New York I returned to Columbus where I was hired by the incredibly talented and kind Steven Cox of Steven Cox Flowers as his assistant floral designer. In my time working for Steven I was able to develop and grow as a designer, and expand my skill set. After many years togeher, Steven and his family decided to move south and he gave me the opportunity to take over his business as my own. Steven taught me techniques to provide customers with the highest quality products possible; he had incredibly high standards for the arrangements that walked though the door and I continue to uphold those same values. I am unbelievably thankful for the time I spent learning from him; I coudn’t ask for a better mentor and friend.

Fun Facts: I was born in Columbus on the winter solstice. I love knitting, reading, linoleum block carving, rescue dogs, and my friends. Whenever I have time off you can usually find me in the woods camping, backpacking, and hiking. I have just under 60 house plants who are named after various women from The Real Housewives franchises. My favorite Columbus grub comes from Katalina’s.

WINONA (SHOP PUP, WINDOW PERFORMANCE ART)

Winona’s history is a bit of a mystery; a stray from Clermont County who found a new life in Columbus with us in August of 2020. Although her birthday is unknown, the vet estimates that she was born at the beginning of 2018, so we settled on February 7th (she radiates Aquarius energy). Winona loves to hike and camp; she can run for miles without getting tired. She has a best friend named Aries who she enjoys running and wrestling with on the weekends. She skins soccer balls with relish, but never ever pops them. Although Nona wakes every morning excited for work, she is often found snoozing on the job or taking bone breaks (good help can be so hard to find). She loves to sit in the front window and people watch, so stop by and catch a glimpse of her adorable smile!

BEANIE (SWEET BOY, GUARDIAN ANGEL)

Although Bean is no longer with us in his physical form, he continues to be the heart and soul of Lagom Floral Gallery. Just look at that sweet face!
